Sophia Moore, LCSW
About Me:
Hello all, my name is Sophia Moore. I have several years of experience providing individual and group therapy services to the local community. My identity as a mother, veteran, and woman of color developed my understanding of the importance of providing culturally competent services to the community. Coming from a community that stigmatize mental health, I learned the necessity of attending to one’s mental wellbeing to thrive.
My passion to work in the mental health field stemmed from two specific experiences. The first was when my grandfather passed. It was the hospital social worker that provided my grandmother the emotional support needed. The LCSW exhibiting compassion while my grandmother navigated medical decisions during the hardest time of her life. The second experience was while working with two exceptional LCSWs who provided therapy to my veteran brothers and sisters. Watching the veterans heal from traumatic experiences inspired me to become an LCSW. These two experiences showed the importance of becoming the change you want to see.
As a therapist, I meet my client’s where they are. I use a person-centered approach to assist clients with identifying maladaptive behaviors and negative thought patterns while developing healthier coping strategies and sound thought patterns. My eclectic approach empowers clients to utilize their strengths while on their journeys.
Life’s journeys can stem from several life stressors like: grief, relationship conflict, identity confusion, parenting dilemmas, childhood traumas or work stress. These journeys can result in the development of a mental health disorder. My practice is open to a diverse range of mental health disorders. The clientele I typically work with have symptoms related to major depressive disorder, adjustment disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. My experience and training are centered on providing individual therapy for the adult population.
My therapeutic approaches include:
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
• Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
• Motivational Interviewing
• Seeking Safety
These therapeutic approaches are centered on the client's needs. My goal with my clients is to create an environment that feels safe and inviting to show up as they are. In our sessions we will process my client’s feelings and hold space for clients to feel heard, seen and understood without judgement or interruption. Working with me can be a guided journey in which clients will receive motivation and compassion to get over the tough hurdles.
